Like most women of the Seventies, Debbie Ellison couldn’t sit idly by while injustices continue to plague everyday civilians trying to earn an honest living. Debbie isn’t afraid to speak freely, like most youth, about the detriment prejudices, sexism and big businesses can cause. “The establishment seems to be coming down harder all the time on far-outs and dissenters,” says the Atlantic City-born beauty who now calls Beacon Hill home. Debbie is so serious in her fight against any sort of injustices that she marched her all-natural bottom down to Washington, D.C. with her fellow classmates to discuss where America’s priorities should be placed with its legislators. The experience, however, left the blue-eyed blonde feeling doubtful about positive change taking place in this day and age. “A lot of Congressmen refer you to their aides or have their secretaries tell you they're not in—but they're not very convincing,” says Debbie. Being a political lobbyist, she says, is something she does only once her homework has been completed. Lobbying, studying English literature at Harvard University and ballet at the Boston School of Ballet has Debbie plenty occupied, but she isn’t going to give up on either of passions, especially after she finally learned her way around Harvard Yard. “It takes quite a while to learn your way around here because all the streets in Cambridge look alike,” admits our blue-eyed Miss September 1970 who moved from Florida to Boston for school. “I'd like to conduct research in literary criticism and writing and perhaps combine my interest in dance and writing by doing reviews.” With interests in avenues that are polar opposites from one another, we couldn’t help but wonder how Debbie had acquired such different passions in the first place. “My father has been active in many areas of the arts: He's been a jazz musician, a designer, a cartoonist, an illustrator and a writer,” explains the all-natural blonde of her interest in the arts. “In my spare time, I love to read, dance, cook, wander through museums and browse in design and furnishing shops.” From dancing, lobbying and now, working for PB, Debbie’s list of extracurricular activities is extensive and continues to grow. “I'm a Bunny at the PB Club in New York,” says our Miss September 1970. “I love being a Playmate because they epitomize feminine desirability and charm to the American man.” Speaking of men, Debbie’s ideal man has to be someone just as ambitious as she is and he needs to challenge her on an intellectual level if he truly wants to make this sex kitten purr. “I admire men like Dr. Benjamin Spock, because of his willingness to stand up for his beliefs,” adds our Playmate of the Month. Paging Dr. Spock, we have a patient here who’s come down with a bad case of hot for doctor.

The Collison Twins are so eerily similar in practically every way that even PB fans are having trouble telling them apart. Madeline and Mary not only look alike, but have the same voice, same likes and dislikes, same hopes and dream and often say the same thing at the same time—double trouble. “Talking to one of us is like talking to the other,” laughs Madeline. “There's really little difference in the way we think and in the things we like to do.” “Twins run in our family,” adds Mary. “My mother had two sets of twins and almost everybody in our family had twins at one time or another.” The Collinson Twins were born in Sliema, Malta and were raised speaking their native tongue—a blend of Arabic and Italian—along with English since the European island formerly belonged to Britain. “Sometimes people treat us differently from other kids just because we're twins,” says Madeline, one of the two all-natural brunettes. “They think we're special, but we don't like the distinction. This is one of the reasons we left home,” adds Mary. “It's too backward and parochial,” says Madeline of her homeland. “The ideas, freedoms and even the fashions of young people aren't readily accepted. Each generation is the same and the Maltese want to keep it that way. Once you've traveled, you feel trapped there, and we're too free-thinking to conform to its customs and traditions.” The busty beauties knew early on their dreams of modeling would never happen in Malta, a country known for its insular and strict, conservative ways. The twins made their way to London where their main objective was modeling together. “At first it was a difficult adjustment since we had no close friends or relatives to help us. We didn't know how to manage a career and we had to learn the hard way,” explains Mary. “Some people tried to take advantage of us because of our inexperience and often promised us jobs we never got.” “We were capable of taking care of ourselves and we did,” adds Madeline. The girls landed modeling jobs in Austria, Germany, Italy, and Belgium and in the United States where they were made our Playmate of the Month—our first Playmate twins ever. “We love being Playmates because we think PB is the best magazine ever,” says both of our Miss October 1970. “Modeling is a holiday—wearing pretty clothes and getting paid,” says Madeline who also enjoys posing for the camera with her pretty clothes off. “The competition is tremendous. There's always going to be someone who's better or prettier than you are, so you have to be in tiptop shape all the time, and it's very tiring, but I have to be doing something. I couldn't stay home for very long. Modeling keeps me busy and the pay is good.” While the girls have been incredibly busy since becoming working models and Playmates, they say they will eventually slow down. “When we have to break dates because of an assignment, men just don't understand. But, if we have to choose between our social life and a job, our work is more important. We just don't want to be involved with anyone—at least for now,” says Madeline. “We’d like to earn enough money to be independent, even after marriage,” adds Mary. The Collison Twins did eventually get married when Mary fell in love with her Italian husband whom she lives in Milan with and Madeline quickly followed suit when she moved back to Malta with her British Royal Air Force officer husband.

Avis Miller, a tall blonde originally from Ohio, has been living in Union City, California with her parents for years. Unlike most young adults, Avis loves the idea of still living at home with her family especially after a childhood spent moving from state to state. My father was a salesman, so we moved around a lot. We lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Texas, Massachusetts, Illinois and Arizona. My older brother now digs on wells in Wyoming,” explains the all-natural blonde who moved herself as a student. “I studied history and education at Michigan State and later Arizona State universities.” Now, that her parents are in one place, she’s more than happy to take advantage of it –and the home-cooked meals are simply icing on the cake. Unfortunately, her convenient living arrangements changed once the Bunny had applied for a promotion and got the job. “I was working as a Cocktail Bunny in the San Francisco Club, when I was told I'd been chosen as a Jet Bunny. To say I was excited is putting it mildly,” giggles our voluptuous Playmate of the Month as she thinks of how far she’s come. “Before I became a Bunny at the PB Club in San Francisco, I was a loan officer at a savings and loan in Tempe.” Becoming one of 15 Jet Bunnies on PB founder Hugh Hefner’s custom-built, private plane—a position 850 Bunnies from PB Clubs around the world had applied for—was an honor, but jet-setting cottontails had to be on call from PB Clubs in either Los Angeles or Chicago for the job. “I don't like living in the heart of a city,” says Avis who decided to live in Inglewood, not too far from Los Angeles. “I get uptight about things like crowds, noise and smog. When I was a kid, my father kept getting transferred—Pittsburgh, Boston, Richmond, Houston. I grew up disliking city life, I'm afraid.” The bright side of being a Jet Bunny means Avis’s job location was the clear sky and therefore, didn’t have to worry too much about her living arrangements. “Stewardesses usually have to train for six weeks,” explains our Miss November 1970 who trained in Lafayette, IN with Purdue and Continental Airlines, “but, that's because they have to learn about five different aircraft—we only had to learn about one—and their teaching is slower because the classes usually have at least 50 girls in them. The big airlines also spend a week on grooming, which the Bunnies already know, plus a week for photo shooting and uniform fittings, which we did on PB time.” After learning first aid, food preparation, ocean survival and more, Avis was ready for the job. “We always have at least three Jet Bunnies on board and since there's a maximum of 38 passengers, we're able to go about our duties without rushing,” says the all-natural blonde who worked with Hef’s longtime girlfriend Barbi Benton during his private party tour that took them through Africa and Europe. “Now that they have 747s, traveling on the commercial airlines is more luxurious than ever, but as far as I'm concerned, the Big Bunny is the only way to fly.” Currently, her feet are firmly placed on the ground, and Avis says it’s time for her to find love. “I'll be happy if I can wind up with a guy who's carefree and isn't a slave to business,” states our Miss November 1970. “I'll admit that that type isn't easy to find, but I haven't even started looking yet.” The moment she does, lineups of single men will emerge at her door.

Everyone is familiar with the old saying ‘everything happens for a reason’ and for many of our Playmates, the phrase rings true for just how they ended up posing for PB. Take for instance Carol Imhof, she would have never become who our Miss December 1970 or tied for runner-up at our Bunny of the Year contest in 1970 if it wasn’t for falling ill and being forced to drop out of Southern Illinois University as a result. What many would have seen as a low point, the busty brunette saw it as her chance to do something she always wanted to do—become a Bunny in Chicago. “I'm a cocktail Bunny at the PB Club. I prefer working afternoons or early evenings, so I can sleep late and go out at night. That’s the perfect situation for me,” says Carol who lived in the Bunny Dormitory at Hugh Hefner’s Chicago Mansion when she was first hired as a Bunny. “I stayed at the Dormitory for eight months and then I got my own place. I liked the other girls, but I wanted to live alone. I look forward to my hours of solitude.” While working as a Penthouse Bunny at the Club is an honor, all-natural Carol says there will be a day soon when she’ll hang her bunny ears up for good. “Right now, I'm getting into other things—especially modeling. I don't really follow fashion much. I would never wear a midi except when I model. It's a designers' conspiracy,” explains our voluptuous Miss December 1970. “When I can get enough freelance work to support myself, I'll probably leave the Club. It's been wonderful, but you can have too much of a good thing.” Too much a good thing hasn’t always stopped Carol in the past from doing something she knew would have odd repercussions like indulging in her favorite food. “Eating crab late at night is one of my favorite indulgences—even though I sometimes pay for it with weird dreams afterward,” she says while giggling at the thought of how weird she must sound. “But, a great meal is worth a nutty dream or two.” Strange dreams aside, Carol’s perfect date would still include a crab dinner and dessert in a much more comfortable position. “My turn-ons are cozy and rustic places,” she adds. “I would also love to spend an evening with my special guy and our friends, perhaps at a party or the racetrack.” Why the racetrack? Carol admits a former boyfriend of hers introduced her to the world of horse races and she was immediately hooked. “After a while, he stopped taking me,” says Carol of her ex. “Whenever I went along, he lost.” His loss is every PB fan’s gain because Carol Imhof, our 200th Playmate of the Month, is a luscious beauty we could never live without.
